A reclaimed gas cylinder given a completely different purpose.

This one-off coffee table has been handmade from a repurposed steel gas cylinder, cut with three circular openings around the body. Each opening has been finished with protective metal edge trim, while the cylinder itself has been coated in hard-wearing black Hammerite.

The solid timber top has been heavily flame-scorched to bring out the natural grain and create the dark, almost charred appearance. It was then treated with Danish oil to protect the timber while retaining its character.

The original upper section of the cylinder has been retained beneath the tabletop, giving the piece an unmistakably industrial look rather than disguising what it started life as.

Approximate dimensions: 52 cm high × 35 cm wide.

As with most things I make at The Revival Shed, this is a genuine one-off rather than a mass-produced piece. Marks, variations and signs of the material’s previous life are part of its character.
