From discarded canister to candlelit character

Discarded nitrous oxide canisters are an unwelcome sight in parks and public spaces. Rather than seeing only waste, I saw the opportunity to make something useful.

The Nitrous Candle gives these metal canisters a new purpose as distinctive candle holders. Their slim cylindrical shape becomes an unusual piece of home décor, with a black exterior, a white-painted interior and black trim framing the opening.

Upcycling waste at its best: taking something discarded and giving it a place in the home.

A warm glow, your way

The white-painted interior provides a bright backdrop for the candlelight, while the tall opening lets the glow become part of the display.

Use a suitable real candle with ample clearance, or choose an LED candle for an easy everyday glow without an open flame. Its compact footprint makes it an interesting accent for a side table, shelf or home bar, wherever there is a stable surface and suitable clearance.

Reclaimed, with its own character

Each Nitrous Candle starts with an existing canister, so surface marks and small variations are part of its upcycled character. The photographs show examples of the finished candle holders and their appearance with different candle styles.

A distinctive gift for someone who enjoys industrial décor, unusual home accessories and creative reuse.

Candle use and care

The 20 × 6cm measurements describe the opening, rather than the maximum safe candle size. Choose a candle that sits securely and leaves generous clearance around and above the flame, away from painted surfaces and trim.

Place on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface, well clear of overhead shelves and combustible objects. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets and draughts. Metal can become hot; allow it to cool before handling.

Use an LED candle wherever adequate flame clearance cannot be maintained.
