The First Bed

Sail away to sleep on a driftwood raft.

As I always want something bold and fantastic for my own bed, when it came to making one some simple criteria had to be met, but from there I let my imagination roam free.

  • I want to almost feel like a child in a fantastical place
  • Be anything other than something I could buy in the shops,
  • Made from prefereably upcycled/recycled sources
  • It’s got to be really comfortable and an epic place for snuggles

Then one day whilst walking along Browndown beach with Tess, I found a huge peice of driftwood on the shoreline, and an image came into place.

Built around the dimensions of a double mattress, I wanted to feel like being on a raft out on the water. So using reclaimed industrial timber, fence posts, the driftwood headboard and a sleeper on the footboard, I needed to come up with something great to engrave into it. I think this motif gave it the perfect spirit and character I wanted.

The sun, the moon and the sea, in a shape of a heart. So with the right crew for the voyage, any sea’s can be sailed together.

Both the sun and moon were painted with copper glitter paint which gives off this warm shimmer, and the backlight shows off the sea battered side of the diftwood.

The top of the diftwood has been treated with epoxy resin
